What are acne scars?

Most cases of acne scars are caused by squeezing on the skin during an outbreak, which can cause lasting damage to your skin by causing inflammation and interrupting the healing process. The type of acne scars left after a breakout depends on the severity of the acne. It could be a red mark, bump, or what looks like a “hole” in the skin. If your red marks don’t change after the pimple heals, the dermatologist explains: “It’s not actually skin pigmentation, but the redness after the acne lesions. This is called post-inflammatory erythema (PIE). Redness It’s the result of inflammation that causes the blood vessels to dilate. It’s part of the healing process that can last for months after the lesions go away.”

If a bump appears on the skin, it may be due to your body’s immune system trying to heal the area. The small bumps that remain may be due to collagen deposits or increased scar tissue due to the inflammatory nature of the acne lesions. If a patient experiences a very inflamed lesion, it stabilizes — but leaves a gland, also called a cyst, under the skin. In the case of severely inflamed lesions, a sunken or sunken scar is often left due to the depth of the infection. These look like holes in the skin.

There are two main types of acne scars to be aware of:

Atrophic scar

A flat, shallow depression that heals below the surface of the skin. These tend to be associated with more cystic acne. There are three types of atrophic scars:

Ice pick scars – small, deep holes in the surface of the skin that look like they have been pierced by a sharp object.

Rolling scars – caused by bands of scar tissue that form under the skin, giving the skin surface a rolling and uneven appearance.

Boxcar scars – round or oval depressions or craters in the skin.

Hypertrophic scars and keloids

These types of scars are not skin depressions, but raised bumps on the skin due to scar tissue. Hypertrophic scars can be the same size as the pimple that caused them, while keloid scars are larger, growing beyond the original pimple size.

How to get rid of acne scars using natural remedies

Acupuncture

If you’re looking for a more natural way to improve acne scars, you may want to consider home remedies or holistic treatments from a specialist. Acupuncture is very effective in treating scars because it increases blood circulation in the area, helps reduce inflammation and stimulates collagen production. This encourages the tissue to repair itself, helping to reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Manuka Honey

Using Manuka honey at home is a good option because it has great anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. For dark spots and hyperpigmented skin, apply apple cider vinegar to the scar with a cotton swab and leave it overnight in the morning before washing off. When choosing skin care products, I would recommend choosing products with narcissus bulbs, kojic acid, and licorice extracts, which have a brightening effect on the skin. “

natural oil

As for raised bumps, a blend of natural oils is recommended. Oils high in essential fatty acids like castor oil can help reduce the appearance of scars by deeply moisturizing the skin and softening the fibrous tissue in scars, making them less visible, it’s worth remembering that ‘natural’ isn’t always right for you better skin. These methods are unproven and not approved by skin care scientists, so watch out for issues like irritation or soreness and discontinue use if this happens. It is always recommended to do a patch test first, as with all natural remedies it is important to do a patch test 48 hours before using them on the face to make sure you are not sensitive to them and try to avoid the eye area when applying to the skin.

shea butter

Not only is shea butter moisturizing and anti-inflammatory, ideal for soothing fresh scars and maintaining skin moisture, shea butter is moisturizing and contains fatty acids that improve the skin’s barrier function. However, since acne scars are located deep in the dermis, they are unlikely to have any effect on the scar tissue. Keeping your skin hydrated is essential to improving the appearance of scars, and while shea butter won’t make scars go away, it will definitely make your skin feel nourished. It can easily “dry” your pimple while it’s healing, but it can be very beneficial to keep it moisturised as new cells start to grow.

lemon juice

Lemons naturally contain exfoliating acids that stimulate cell turnover and lighten hyperpigmentation—seemingly great for acne scars. While we don’t recommend applying raw lemon juice directly to your skin, we don’t recommend using lemon juice on your skin – while it’s high in sugar, vitamin C, and citric acid, it’s likely to irritate your skin (especially if you’re already sensitive). skin). This is due to the unstable form of vitamin C it contains and the irritating breakdown products it produces when exposed to air. But you might consider adding it to a homemade face mask.

aloe vera gel

A soothing ingredient great for sunburns can also be used on acne scars. It actually contains a compound called “aloin,” which has been found to help treat hyperpigmentation left behind by acne scars. When your acne scars look red or inflamed, you may not notice a difference in scar reduction, but it will calm the aggravated area. Aloe vera contains high levels of the antioxidant vitamin E – it can help brighten the skin, and it’s also very soothing, so it can reduce irritation and inflammation. But topical use (at least not in the short term) is unlikely to improve acne scars.

Mild acne scars can last for months (three to six months on average), but with the right ingredients and treatments, you can speed up the process to weeks or even days. It’s a good idea to start treating acne scars as soon as possible, the longer you leave them, the harder it will be to get rid of them. Severe acne scars and pitted scars tend to be permanent unless you opt for clinical treatment. That’s when instrumentation treatments are needed, including Picrolris and Fractional Co2, which can help get rid of acne scars quickly.
